⁴³ Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,^{(A) 44} and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. ⁴⁵ For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve,^(B) and to give his life as a ransom for many.”^(C)

²⁷ For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.^(A)

¹³ “You call me ‘Teacher’^(A) and ‘Lord,’^(B) and rightly so, for that is what I am. ¹⁴ Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet.^{(C) 15} I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you.^{(D) 16} Very truly I tell you, no servant is greater than his master,^(E) nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. ¹⁷ Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.^(F)
